Overview
KLIPO aime is a design project focused on creating a modular, accessible, and aesthetically appealing collection of decorative pieces, all based on existing IKEA furniture. The brand was born alongside the development of its first product. My role encompassed defining the brand manifesto, designing the product, coordinating with the manufacturing team, and overseeing the entire production process, from early prototypes to final manufacturing. The finished product features simple yet playful curves, infused with a 70s-inspired spirit, while remaining easy to produce and intuitive to use.
Brief
The founder of KLIPO and I began collaborating to develop a solution that would make designer furniture more accessible to people who seek to add personality to their interiors without necessarily having the budget for high-end pieces. We decided to personalize IKEA furniture in order to give it a unique character. I was tasked with designing the brand’s first product, which needed to embody both the modularity and playfulness at the core of KLIPO’s identity.
Proposal
We chose to start with a mirror as our first product, as it is both a current trend and a practical way to open up compact interiors. The concept is built around using an existing IKEA mirror - either the LÄRBRO (48x60 cm) or the LÖNSÅS (21x30 cm) - and enhancing it with our custom KLIPO frame. The frame simply clips onto the mirror using small rotating knobs, making it easy to assemble, disassemble, and update. And just like that, your new, personalized mirror is ready!
The frame is made from lacquered MDF, offering a soft, lightweight finish. The colors were carefully selected to complement a wide range of interior styles, while still bringing personality and vibrance to the space. The long-term goal is to expand the KLIPO collection with a variety of new frame shapes, colors, and designs. Eventually, we even envision a dedicated platform for users to exchange or resell their KLIPO frames: keeping the mirror base while swapping frames as their taste evolves. A modular, sustainable, and beautiful approach to everyday decoration.
